I am a Melbourne based artist and I have been exhibiting on a regular basis.
In September & October of 2019 I participated in an art residency at Gæsteatelier Hollufgård, Denmark.
The residency is in Odense, Denmark, founded in 1982. The Gæsteatelier Hollufgård is one of the largest centres for sculpture and painting in the Nordic countries. The centre was established to attract Danish and international artists and offers an ideal environment both for working and promoting a healthy exchange of ideas.
In May & June 2018 I was one of the artists at the Fish Factory, Creative Centre, a multi-disciplinary art Residency in Stöðvarfjörður, Iceland. For two months I worked and lived with other international artists in a new and unfamiliar environment. This challenging residency was a perfect way to obtain critical feedback on my work and to produce a significant new body of work. I was able to bring back to Australia a small collection of wax sculptures, prints, photographs and ideas. I have been using abstract, organic shapes to create the figurative and the anthropomorphic. For example using parts of deer antlers as the starting point for the wax shapes that became the final cast bronze piece.
I work in a variety of media, currently working in bronze. Before casting in bronze, working in wax enables experimentation and play.
In March 2017 I had an art residency in Stanley, Tasmania where I was mentored by Jon Eiseman, Sculptor and Anne Conron, printmaker & ceramicist.
I completed my BA, sculpture at Prahran in 1985 and my Curatorial Postgrad at Melbourne University in 1994.
I have also curated a number of exhibitions for other groups and artists, in particular “Libart” in 2005 and 2010-2012 for the Association Sculpture Victoria for their annual exhibitions. In 2002 I was artist in residence at Catholic Ladies College, Eltham.
In 1998 I started Shelter Shed Art with other artists where I was able to bring an art appreciation experience to primary school students and to make sculpture fun and enjoyable.
My major research thesis was on the Meat Workers Union Patronage of the Arts.
